Why 7D2D Servers Lag

7 Days to Die eats CPU cycles long before it touches RAM. Hosting plans that look great on paper can still choke if:

• You spawn dozens of zombies per player during horde night.
• Electric fences, dart traps, and turrets stack on top of each other.
• Players huddle in a mega-base with 10k RWG terrain loaded simultaneously.
• You run Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy on a Plan S/M instance designed for vanilla.

Recommended Server Settings

Edit these in Manage → Game Settings or directly in serverconfig.xml:

• BloodMoonEnemyCount="6" – more than 12 demolishers on Plan M will lag.
• MaxSpawnedZombies="32", MaxSpawnedAnimals="8" – resets the global cap.
• ServerMaxAllowedViewDistance="10" – lower for entry-level plans.

Pick the Right Hosting Plan

Base Design Tips

• Keep horde bases simple—fancy AI loops chew CPU.
• Limit fence posts and shotgun turrets; run tests offline before horde night.
• Clean debris between blood moons so ragdolls don't pile up.

Ongoing Maintenance

• Restart the server every 24–48 hours to flush memory.
• Prune abandoned land claims to free entities.
• Spread players across multiple regions during building sessions.
