Wasteland
Wasteland Mod

Wasteland is the post-apocalyptic-themed overhaul for 7 Days to Die. Built and maintained by bdubyah, the mod leans into the irradiated-wasteland fantasy with a recommended 16K map, custom POIs, raider faction encounters, and a tone that feels closer to Fallout-style scavenger survival than vanilla 7DTD. It's also one of the easier overhauls to install — single-archive deployment without the multi-step rituals of Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy.
Origins and design intent
bdubyah built Wasteland as a coherent thematic overhaul: what would 7 Days to Die feel like if the world tone was specifically post-nuclear, irradiated, raider-driven? The result has a distinct identity — vehicles feel like scavenged junk, weapons feel improvised, factions feel hostile-by-default rather than vanilla's neutral-trader baseline. The mod is actively maintained across major TFP stable cycles.
Gameplay Features
-
Custom 16K map — recommended map size, hand-tuned for the wasteland aesthetic
-
Raider faction encounters — hostile NPC patrols spread across the world
-
Scavenged-style weapons — improvised guns, makeshift tools, junk-tier early gear
-
Custom vehicles — wasteland-themed transport (rust-bucket cars, motorcycles)
-
Expanded POI roster — bunkers, raider camps, irradiated zones
-
Radiation mechanics — environmental hazards in certain biomes
-
Single-archive install — easier setup than DF / UL
Survival realism
Wasteland sits in the medium-realism zone. The radiation and raider mechanics add real survival friction without the granular item-degradation of Undead Legacy or the punishing pace of Ravenhearst. Vanilla 7DTD survival fundamentals are preserved; the layer on top is environmental danger and faction hostility.
Quality-of-life enhancements
-
Single-archive install removes the multi-step file-juggling rituals
-
Cleaner trader rotation
-
Improved POI signposting for wasteland-specific locations
-
Better tooltips on radiation gear
-
Streamlined inventory categories
New challenges and enemies
Wasteland's threat model differs from vanilla in distinct ways:
-
Raider patrols — hostile human NPCs that hunt the player
-
Radiation zones — biomes with environmental DOT damage
-
Custom mutant zombie variants — irradiated walkers with unique behaviors
-
Boss-tier wasteland encounters at scripted POIs
-
Bandit ambushes at major roads and trader paths
Crafting and workstations
The crafting layer adds wasteland-specific tiers:
-
Scrap-tier crafting (improvised tools and weapons)
-
Wasteland chemistry (radiation meds, makeshift explosives)
-
Vehicle salvage stations
-
Custom workbenches for thematic gear
The crafting curve is largely vanilla-shaped with mod-specific tiers stacked on top — you don't have to learn a whole new progression system.
Legal and use conditions
Wasteland is free to use for community servers. bdubyah distributes the mod via the 7D2D Mod Launcher v5 and community channels. XML and gameplay logic are freely available; some custom textures, audio, and prefab content carry community-license terms — point your players at the launcher source rather than repackaging the mod.
Plan L recommended — 16K map size requires more RAM than smaller worlds.
Recent updates
The current Wasteland build is compatible with 7 Days to Die V1.0+ / 2.x. Recent changes have focused on:
-
1.0+ port balance and stability
-
New raider patrol AI behaviors
-
Custom POI additions
-
Performance work on radiation-zone calculation
How to install Wasteland
For self-hosters: install via the 7D2D Mod Launcher v5. Search for "Wasteland", install — single-archive download keeps things simple.
For dedicated servers: install the server bundle, then configure your dedicated server to use a 16K map (the recommended size for the wasteland experience). Distribute the same client bundle to all players.
If you're hosting with Supercraft, we pre-install Wasteland at the recommended 7DTD core version with a 16K map pre-configured. Your players just need the matching client bundle from launcher v5.
