Sorcery Mod

Sorcery Mod for 7 Days to Die

Sorcery is the magic-system overhaul for 7 Days to Die. Built and maintained by Devrix, the mod adds full spellcasting, mana mechanics, magic schools, and an arcane progression path that runs alongside (or layered onto) the vanilla survival arc. It's one of the few mods that successfully grafts a fantasy magic system onto a post-apocalyptic survival game without breaking either genre.

Origins and design intent

Devrix started Sorcery as a personal experiment — what if 7 Days to Die had a real magic system, not just XML-modded weapons disguised as spells? The result is a mod that ships proper mana mechanics, schools-of-magic progression, scroll-based learning, and class identity through spell selection. Devrix has kept Sorcery actively maintained across multiple alpha cycles and shipped a fully ported 1.0+ version.

Gameplay Features

  • Mana system — proper mana pool with regeneration, mana-cost scaling, and mana-affecting gear.

  • Multiple magic schools — fire, frost, lightning, shadow, and other spell families with their own progression paths.

  • Scroll-based learning — find or craft scrolls to unlock spells; ties cleanly into vanilla loot/quest flow.

  • Spell items + wands — magic gear and equipment that interact with the mana system.

  • Custom magic crafting stations — alchemy benches, enchanting tables, and other workstations for the magical progression layer.

  • Compatible alongside Darkness Falls — Devrix specifically maintains a DF-compat patch so you can run both together.

Survival realism

Sorcery doesn't replace the survival fantasy; it layers a magical class system on top. You still need food and water, you still build a base, you still survive horde nights. The magic just gives you another viable build path alongside marksman/melee/heavy. The mod is balanced so that pure mages, pure martial builds, and hybrids all feel viable.

Quality-of-life enhancements

  • Clean spell-selection UI with cast-cost visibility

  • Scroll discovery tracker

  • Mana-pool indicator integrated with vanilla HUD

  • Spell hotbar binding

  • Recipe-discovery UX that fits the vanilla learning flow

New challenges and enemies

Sorcery adds magical-themed enemies and encounters:

  • Magical zombie variants with elemental attacks

  • Boss encounters that require the mage build to engage effectively

  • Custom POIs with wizard-themed loot

  • Difficulty scaling that respects whether you've leaned into the magic system

Crafting and workstations

The crafting layer adds:

  • Alchemy bench (potion crafting)

  • Enchanting table (gear with magical bonuses)

  • Scroll-crafting workbench

  • Magical material processing — refined mana crystals, arcane components

These integrate with vanilla crafting tiers; you don't have to abandon the iron-to-steel weapon arc to use Sorcery.

Sorcery is free to use for community servers. Devrix distributes the mod via the 7D2D Mod Launcher v5 and the official Sorcery community channels. XML and gameplay logic are freely usable; some custom UI textures, spell-effect VFX, and magical-creature models carry their own community-license terms — don't redistribute outside the launcher source.

How to install Sorcery

For self-hosters: install via the 7D2D Mod Launcher v5. Search for "Sorcery", install the latest compatible build. For Darkness Falls compatibility, install both Sorcery AND Darkness Falls in the order shown on the Sorcery Discord.

For dedicated servers: install the matching server bundle into Mods/. Both server and client must run identical Sorcery builds (and identical DF builds if running compat).

If you're hosting with Supercraft, we pre-install Sorcery and (optionally) the Darkness Falls compat patch. Your players just need the matching client bundle from launcher v5.
