Custom Avatars Mod
![]()
Custom Avatars is the player-model and skin customization mod for 7 Days to Die. Where vanilla offers limited character customization, Custom Avatars adds player models, skins, accessory presets, and visual variety — letting community-server members actually look distinct from each other instead of all running the same vanilla survivor template. It's a lightweight content pack that fits cleanly alongside any overhaul mod.
Origins and design intent
Custom Avatars is community-built, with the simple thesis: players in a long-running community server should be able to look distinct, and vanilla's character customization doesn't deliver that. The mod keeps the file footprint small, animations stable, and works alongside almost any other mod without conflicts. Maintained as a community project across multiple alpha cycles.
Gameplay Features
-
Multiple player-model presets — various characters, ethnic and aesthetic variety
-
Custom skin options — additional character skin tones and styles beyond vanilla
-
Accessory presets — clothing combinations, headgear, gear styles
-
Mod compatibility — works alongside DF, UL, War3zuk, Ravenhearst, and most content packs
-
Lightweight — small download, minimal performance impact
-
Multiplayer-friendly — every player on the server can pick a different avatar
Survival realism
Custom Avatars is a purely cosmetic mod. It doesn't change combat, crafting, survival mechanics, or progression. Vanilla 7DTD survival is preserved entirely. The only change is that your server's players can look meaningfully different from each other.
Quality-of-life enhancements
-
Cleaner character-customization UI
-
Avatar presets save per profile
-
Improved character preview when joining a server
-
Compatible mirror-pose animations across model variants
New challenges and enemies
None. Custom Avatars is cosmetic-only. No enemies added, no combat changes. Threat level remains at vanilla / chosen-overhaul baseline.
Crafting and workstations
None. Custom Avatars doesn't touch the crafting tree or workstations.
Legal and use conditions
Custom Avatars is free to use for community servers. The mod is community-distributed via the 7D2D Mod Launcher v5 and community channels. XML and gameplay logic are freely available. Custom character models and texture work — the artistic content of the mod — are usually attribution-protected; the model creators put real craft work into them. Always source from the official launcher; don't repackage the assets.
