7 Days To Die V3.3.0: Bigger Backpacks, Known Issues and What It Changes For Your Server
v3.3.0 branch both serve dedicated-server build 25661908, and nothing newer is on any branch (checked October 18). A client and a server on different versions cannot connect, so a server still on 3.2 has to move to 3.3, or its players pin v3.2.0 under Properties > Game Versions & Betas. The Fun Pimps have not announced 3.3 for PlayStation or Xbox.
Is 7 Days to Die 3.3 out?
Yes, as the stable build since October 5, 2026. The Fun Pimps announced V3.3.0 EXP on September 24. The experimental branch took build 25518420 (b14) on September 25, 25542643 (b17) on September 29 and 25661908 (b18) on October 1, and on October 5 that same b18 build was promoted unchanged to the default branch and to a new v3.3.0 branch. Steam updates players to it on their next launch.
| Branch | Dedicated server build | Serving it since |
|---|---|---|
public (default) | 25661908 (V3.3.0) | October 5, 2026 |
v3.3.0 | 25661908 | October 5, 2026 |
latest_experimental | 25661908 (V3.3.0 b18) | October 1, 2026 |
v3.2.0 | 24994542 (V3.2.0) | August 31, 2026 |
v3.1.0 | 24436799 (V3.1.0) | July 29, 2026 |
That is Steam's own branch data for the dedicated server app (294420), read on October 18, 2026: no 3.4 or 4.0 build is on any branch. To see which build a server actually runs, read its Steam manifest rather than the version string in the log:
grep '"buildid"' steamapps/appmanifest_294420.acf
25661908 is V3.3.0. 24994542 is the 3.2.0 build that replaced the release-day 3.2.0 on August 31; the 3.2 page explains that rebuild.
3.3 on PlayStation and Xbox
Not announced. The Fun Pimps' V3.3.0 announcement covers the Steam release and does not mention PlayStation or Xbox, and neither did their 3.2 announcement. The last release they announced for PC and both consoles together was V3.1.0, on July 27. A console can only play on a server that runs the same version, so compare the two version numbers before you look for a crossplay setting to blame.
Bigger backpacks: how many slots, and how to get one
The headline of 3.3 is inventory. The base grid changed from 9x5 (45 slots) to 8x6 (48 slots): four rows of free slots and two rows of encumbered ones. A new Backpack equipment slot takes a Small, Medium or Large backpack, each in six quality levels, and an equipped backpack adds slots up to a total of 96, an 8x12 grid. The added slots count as encumbered until Pack Mule, pocket mods or an outfit cover them.
What each backpack adds, from the 3.3 item definitions:
| Backpack | Quality 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | Inventory at quality 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | +2 | +4 | +6 | +8 | +12 | +16 | 64 slots |
| Medium | +18 | +20 | +22 | +24 | +28 | +32 | 80 slots |
| Large | +34 | +36 | +38 | +40 | +44 | +48 | 96 slots |
Backpacks take no mods. You craft them at a workbench once Pack Rat Magazines raise the new Backpacks crafting skill to 5 for a Small, 40 for a Medium and 75 for a Large, and finished ones turn up in Savage Country crates. The wiki's backpack guide has every recipe, where the magazines come from and which Pack Mule rank covers which bag.
The 8x6 inventory, and why it scrolls
The 3.3 inventory window no longer shows the whole grid. It holds up to twelve rows of eight inside a scrolling view a little under five rows tall, so even the base six rows need a scroll, and a full Large backpack needs more. In 3.2 the window showed the 9x5 grid whole. The window's size is set in the game's UI files, so changing it takes a UI mod.
Only part of the grid is free: 32 slots at default settings, the four free rows, scaled by the Encumbrance Slots sandbox option. Anything carried past that slows you down, so 3.3 raised Pack Mule to match the bigger grid: its five ranks now add 4, 12, 24, 40 and 56 free slots, against 3, 6, 10, 14 and 18 in 3.2. Pocket mods and the Lumberjack, Scavenger and Nomad outfits add the same as before.
Known issues, and the trader one
From The Fun Pimps' stable announcement (October 5) and their separate known-issue note (October 7):
- Traders will not sell to you while Dukes sit in the last toolbelt slot. Move the Dukes to any other slot and buying works again.
- A possible null reference error (NRE) when generating chunk decorations, on new games only.
- Players on Mac with French as the client language cannot join a peer-to-peer game or a server, and changing the language in macOS can freeze the game.
- The Euthanizer perk triggers but does not work.
- Items cannot be consumed straight from a campfire; move them to your inventory first.
- The item sell number can display wrong, and the tenth item cannot be sold from the hotbar.
- Switching to a bow, crossbow or knuckles in third person and then into first person leaves the item floating; changing the active toolbelt slot in first person fixes it.
Until The Fun Pimps take an issue off their list, treat it as live on your server.
What 3.3 changes for a server
The fixes that matter on a dedicated server. Vehicles again check for stored items before they can be picked up on a dedicated server, a regression from the 3.3 experimental that b17 fixed before the stable. Drop On Death set to Equipment no longer duplicates equipment. Respawn logic was simplified, and conditions that could hang a respawn now time out instead of soft-locking the player. A rare deadlock between threads, when a multi-block straddling chunks was changed while the save system processed reset chunks, is fixed, and so is an exception edge case in the region file manager. b18 also brought back the give and listitems commands.
No server setting moved. We compared the 3.3 server files with 3.2.0's (24994542): serverconfig.xml has the same properties and the sandbox options are identical, so an existing config and SandboxCode carry over. 17 config files changed: items.xml, loot.xml, recipes.xml, traders.xml, progression.xml, buffs.xml, entityclasses.xml, sounds.xml, ui_display.xml, Localization.csv and seven XUi files, the inventory window among them. One file is new, toolbelt.xml, and it only configures the Prefab Editor's toolbelt pages. A modlet that patches any of those files, the inventory UI above all, is the first thing to re-test.
Renames. The AK-47 Machine Gun is now the KV-47 Machine Gun. Only the display name changed: the item is still gunMGT1AK47, so give commands, loot lists and modlets that use that name keep working, while the Twitch action became #supply_kv47. Two places were renamed the same way: Atomic Bodega is now Nuke Bodega, and Atomic Burger is Nuke Burger.
Sign designs. Saved sign designs gained an Ally Sharing setting (Private, Selectable or Copyable), and a sign's options now include blocking that sign, blocking every sign by its author, and reporting it. The Fun Pimps' notes do not mention this.
Bandits are not in 3.3
The 3.3 text files add 140 lines of bandit dialogue and the names of 30 places, 11 of them bandit sites. None of it can turn up in a 3.3 world: no bandit is defined among the game's entities, nothing spawns one, 28 of the 30 places (every bandit site among them) have no map file, and the world generator places no bandit site. Bandits remain the headline of V4.0, which has no date; the 4.0 page tracks it.
Should you move your server to 3.3?
A vanilla server, yes. Players' Steam clients update to 3.3 by default, and a 3.3 client cannot join a 3.2 server. A server on the default branch takes 3.3 at its next update; on 7d2d.net, switch the version to Stable 3.3 in the server's version settings, and new servers start on it.
An overhaul server, not until the overhaul moves. Overhauls pin a game build. War3zuk's AIO v3.4 already runs on 3.3, and our one-click War3zuk build is on it. For the others, keep the server on the build the overhaul names and have players pin the matching branch; the modpacks page lists what each pack runs on.
A new world is not required. Nothing in the notes forces one; the one new-game issue on the list is the chunk-decoration NRE. Back up before the first start on the new build, as with any version bump.
Frequently asked questions
Is 7 Days to Die 3.3 out?
Yes. V3.3.0 has been the stable build on PC since October 5, 2026, Steam build 25661908. It was experimental from September 24 and was promoted with the b18 build unchanged.
Is 3.3 on PS5 and Xbox?
Not announced. The Fun Pimps' 3.3 announcement covers the Steam release only, and a console can only play on a server that runs the same version.
How do I get a bigger backpack in 3.3?
Craft one at a workbench after reading Pack Rat Magazines: the Small recipe unlocks at Backpacks level 5, Medium at 40 and Large at 75. Finished backpacks also turn up in Savage Country crates, and traders sell the magazines.
How many inventory slots does 3.3 give?
48 without a backpack, in an 8x6 grid. A backpack adds 2 to 48 slots depending on its size and quality, up to 96 with a quality 6 Large. At default settings 32 slots are free of encumbrance before perks and mods.
Why does my inventory scroll in 3.3?
The 3.3 inventory window shows a little under five rows at a time and scrolls through the rest, so the base six rows already need a scroll. 3.2 showed its 9x5 grid whole.
Why can't I buy from a trader in 3.3?
It is a known 3.3 issue: buying fails while Dukes sit in the last toolbelt slot. Move the Dukes to any other slot.
Was the AK-47 renamed in 3.3?
Yes, it is now the KV-47 Machine Gun. Only the name changed: the item is still gunMGT1AK47, so commands and modlets that use it keep working.
Are bandits in 3.3?
No. 3.3 adds bandit dialogue and the names of bandit sites, but no bandit entity, nothing that spawns one and no bandit site a world can generate. Bandits are planned for V4.0, which has no date.
Do I need a new world for 3.3?
No. Nothing in the 3.3 notes forces one, and a 3.2 serverconfig.xml and SandboxCode carry over unchanged. Back up before the first start on the new build.
What comes after 3.3?
No 3.4 or 4.0 build is on any Steam branch as of October 18, 2026. V4.0, with bandits, is the next major update and has no release date.

25661908, and nothing newer is out. It brings the Bigger Backpack system: an 8x6 base inventory of 48 slots, and Small, Medium and Large backpacks that take it to as many as 96, crafted through the new Backpacks skill and Pack Rat Magazines. Pack Mule now frees up to 56 slots. The inventory window scrolls, traders refuse to sell while Dukes sit in the last toolbelt slot, and the AK-47 is now the KV-47. For a server nothing in serverconfig.xml or the sandbox options moved, so a vanilla server should move to 3.3; an overhaul server waits for its overhaul.
