7DTD Server Disconnected You: V2.6 Fix Checklist (2026)
“Server Disconnected You” Error — V2.6 / 2026 Fix Checklist
The “Server Disconnected You” error in 7 Days to Die V2.6 era happens mid-session, not at connection. This page lists every common cause we see across hundreds of hosted servers, in roughly order of frequency, with the fix for each. Updated May 2026 for current 1.0+/V2.x reality.
1. Server-Side Restart / Crash (Most Common)
The server actually went down — scheduled restart, crash, or admin manual stop. The disconnect message you see is the symptom, not the cause.
Fix
- Wait 60 seconds, try to reconnect. If the server comes back up, you’re fine.
- If it stays down, contact the admin. Server-side issue, not client-side.
- If you see “server denied” on retry, see Server Denied Your Connection.
2. Out-of-Memory Crash on Server
Modded servers regularly hit OOM mid-session. JVM tries to GC, fails, server crashes, all clients drop with “disconnected”.
Fix
- Server admin: increase server memory. Modded servers want 16+ GB; vanilla 8GB is fine for small groups.
- Tail server-console.txt for OutOfMemoryError; if you see it, that’s the cause.
3. Network Hiccup
Brief packet-loss or routing issue between you and the server. Server times out your connection, kicks you with “disconnected”.
Fix
- Check your internet (run a speedtest, ping the server’s IP).
- If WiFi, switch to ethernet for stability.
- Try a different DNS (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, Google 8.8.8.8).
4. EAC Failed Mid-Session
EasyAntiCheat occasionally re-validates and fails (Steam auth blip, ticket expired). Server kicks you for failed validation.
Fix
- Restart Steam, then 7DTD, then reconnect.
- If you’re on a modded server with EAC off, this isn’t your issue — check causes 1-3.
5. Idle Kick
Some servers auto-kick AFK players after 10-30 minutes. You went to make coffee, came back, “disconnected”.
Fix
- Just reconnect. No real fix; admin can adjust the timeout if it’s annoying.
6. Server Banned You Mid-Session
Admin issued a ban while you were online. Server kicks you and rejects future reconnects.
Fix
- Contact the admin.
- Check your Steam profile for VAC bans.
7. Server-Side Anti-Cheat Flag
The server-side anti-cheat (Vulcan, Matrix, Grim, or vanilla EAC) flagged your behavior — could be false positive from a movement quirk, or a legit detection.
Fix
- Server admin: review the anti-cheat log, decide if false positive or actual ban.
- Player: if you’re sure it’s false positive, contact admin with details (where you were, what you were doing).
8. World-Save Corruption
Server’s save state got corrupted (crash during save, disk-full, ransomware-detected file). Server boots into bad-state, kicks all players, fails to load world.
Fix
- Server admin: restore from latest snapshot.
- If you’re hosted on a panel-managed service, this is a one-click action.
9. Steam Service Disruption
Steam’s authentication or matchmaking services have a brief outage, server can’t verify you, kicks.
Fix
- Check steamstat.us.
- Wait 5-10 minutes, retry.
10. Mod-Triggered Crash on Specific Action
Sometimes a mod has a bug that crashes the server when a specific action happens (specific item used, specific block placed). Players who triggered it get blamed.
Fix
- Server admin: watch which actions correlate with disconnects, identify the offending mod.
- Disable the mod or revert to a previous version.
Diagnostic Order — What to Try First
- Wait 60 seconds, reconnect. Most common cause is a brief server-side hiccup.
- If the server is up but only YOU got disconnected: check causes 3 (network), 4 (EAC), 5 (idle).
- If everyone disconnected: server-side issue. Causes 1, 2, 8, 9.
- If you reconnected and got “server denied”: move to Server Denied diagnostic.
Bottom Line
“Server Disconnected You” is most often a server-side hiccup — OOM, crash, restart. From the player’s side, the diagnostic is fast: wait, reconnect, escalate to admin if it persists.
Running a server with frequent OOM disconnects? Likely under-provisioned RAM. 7 Days to Die hosting from $5.99/mo — per-plan RAM scales for modded servers, automatic snapshots if a crash takes the world down.
